Local Bookshops

Waterstones

13 Vicar Ln, Chesterfield S40 1PY, UK – 01246 231061

Enter at your peril - you will want to stay a while. Something for everyone but have a good budget. Yes there will be offers, and sales, but by and large the price stated on the back (or inside) cover is usually the price you pay. Yes you will find cheaper at TESCO - but at Waterstones you get the expertise, you'll be served by people who read, who have a rich knowledge of books and literature and can make recommendations or who will have read book reviews. By and large you pay a bit more but get a whole lot more added value from people who don't work there by accident - it's usually because they love books...

I picked a book and the assistant recommended another book. A book i would never have looked at but thoroughly enjoyed. Eleanor Oliphant is fine

The Works

12 Vicar Ln, Chesterfield S40 1PY, UK – 01246 205280

The Works is so much better now it's moved to a larger shop. It feels spacious and airy, a vast improvement on the previous store that I found to be cramped. Good selection of books when I visited although it does seem that stock levels can vary from week to week. Staff polite and friendly. A lovely clean shop with defined areas mapped out which I like in a shop.

I adore this shop especially the craft section, the stationery and their reasonably priced artist stuff. So I tend to make a b-line for The Works whenever I'm in the vicinity of one.

WHSmith

4 Middle Pavement, The Pavements, Chesterfield S40 1PA, UK – 01246 206774

Good choice when you need to quickly buy some stationery. Fact that inside the shop is Post Office also very helps. One thing I would add is self-service cashier near the Post Office

Good selection of items. Pricey but wait for offers and sale items
